Settlement for
Cerebral Palsy
Newark, N.J., March 28, 2005.
A medical malpractice case against a Newark obstetrician has been settled
with a structured settlement paying $11 million dollars over the life of
a four year old Newark boy who was born at University Hospital Newark in
200l.
According to Martin F. Kronberg,
attorney for the child, the infant was exhibiting signs of fetal distress
during labor and delivery which were not diagnosed, causing him to be born
with cerebral palsy.
Under the terms of the settlement,
a cash advance of $750,000 will be paid immediately with the balance of
the monies being paid monthly during the child's life which is expected
to be of normal length.
Kronberg stated that the
settlement will allow the child to receive first rate care and support
for his lifetime.
